Community Pool Update

We know that all of you are curious as to when the pool will open and what this summer might hold.  As of right now, community pools are closed by the North Carolina Governor’s state orders. We do not have a clear picture what the specific guidance and regulations concerning community pool operation will look like or when they can open.

Based on the Governor’s current orders, the state will begin Phase 1 of easing COVID-19 restrictions this Friday, May 8 at 5pm.  We expect Phase 1 to last 2-3 weeks, then he will implement Phases 2 and 3 over time.

In Phase 1, pools and gyms must remain closed.  Many retail locations can open, but restaurants must still operate on take-out and delivery only.   Gatherings continue to be limited to ten or fewer people. We are hopeful, but not sure, that pools and gyms might be allowed to open in Phase 2.  We will keep you posted as we learn more.

All Associations are focused first and foremost on the safety and welfare of the community. We also recognize that the associations are responsible for ensuring compliance with state and county COVID-19 related guidelines.  This could be challenging, especially for communities without pool attendants on site.  The pools will remain closed until we have authority and guidelines on how to safely open and operate, until the availability of cleaning wipes/hand sanitizing stations and other materials are available, and until the Board of Directors agree to open and have approved appropriate operational and safety guidelines.

If your property is in a rental program, please discuss the pool closure with your rental agent.  Since the county is opening to visitors on May 16, prior to the state entering Phase 2, visitors are welcomed back but pools cannot be open.  You should ensure your guests know this prior to arrival.
